Porsche has unveiled a new version of its Gran Turismo model: the Panamera Turbo S. The brand says that with the Turbo S it will raise the standards of the sporty four-door cars in the luxury class, offering a combination of performance and efficiency, driving dynamics and comfort.
The Panamera Turbo S is powered by a 4.8 litre, V8 biturbo engine that delivers 550 hp, 50 hp more thant the current Panamera Turbo. The torque has also been upgraded to 750 Nm. In the “Sport” and “Sport Plus” mode of the standard Sport Chrono Package Turbo and during kick-down in normal mode, the eight cylinder engine delivers 800 Nm thanks to the so-called overboost function.
Thanks to the engine fitted on the new Panamera and to the Launch Control system, the Turbo S is able to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds and to reach a top speed of 306km/h. Although performance has been enhanced, fuel consumption remains close to the levels of the Panamera Turbo. The Panamera Turbo S has a combined fuel consumption of 11.5 l/100km, which falls to 11.3 l/100km when the car is fitted with the 19 inch, all-season tyres with optimised rolling resistance developed for the Panamera by Michelin.
So how can we explain the increased performance on the Panamera Turbo S? With two main enhancements: the improved turbochargers with titanium-aluminium turbine wheels and modified engine control. Thanks to the use of the innovative titanium-aluminium alloy the weight of the turbine and compressor wheel is reduced, which results in a lower moment of inertia and thus in improved and more agile engine responsiveness.
The Panamera Turbo S has been fitted with the most important driving dynamics control systems as standard, including Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), the Servotronic and the Sport Chrono Package Turbo.
Besides its performance the sporty character of the new Panamera Turbo S can also be spotted on the car’s looks thanks to the 20-inch Turbo II wheels with increased rear axle track width, side skirts from the Porsche Exclusive range and the adaptive extending four-way rear spoiler. Inside the exclusivity and sportiness have been combined with a bi-colour leather finish.
The Panamera Turbo S costs 167,076 euro in Germany, including VAT and country-specific equipment. Deliveries start in June 2011.
