Peugeot CEO Says that 208 R on the Way

CEO Maxime Picat announced that the company would “soon have an even sportier 208 R.” This comes as a pretty big surprise because it if the first mention of the car.

Picat did not go into any details other than saying the car would be based off the 208 GTI.

There is room to boost power from the 208 GTI. It uses BMWBMWGermany, 1918 > present87 models

/PSA jointly developed 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 197hp and 203lb-ft of torque. The same engine is boosted to 270hp and 243lb-ft in the RCZ R. The RCZ R also gets some lightened components as well.

This engine in the 208 platform could be quite potent. The 208 GTI already weighs 661lb (300kg) less than the RCZ R, which accelerates to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds. The 208 R could be quite a hot hatch.
