As the model is completing 20 years of existence,
Porsche decided to reinvent the
Boxster which comes together with a name swap to
718 Boxster, named after the historic model of the German mark. The roadster is replaced by a more powerful and efficiente four cylinder mid-engine and undergoes some changes in terms of design. Market launch is scheduled for April.
With the new 718 Boxster, Porsche keeps the tradition of four-opposed cylinder engines that were used in the
Porsche 718 with middle engine, the historical model of the 60s that won several races including the Targa Florio and Le Mans.
Thanks to the new four-cylinder engine, Porsche managed to secure a reduction of 14% in consumption in the
718 Boxster and
Boxster S, compared to the previous model. In addition there was also an increase in output to 300hp and 350hp respectively. Torque in the 718 Boxster is fixed at 420Nm while the S version has 420Nm. The 718 Boxster S is equipped with the only variable turbo geometry used in a gasoline engine in the world, according to Porsche.
Regarding performance, the 718 Boxster can reach 100km/h in 4.7 seconds while the 718 Boxster S reaches the mark in 4.2 seconds. The maximum speed of the first is set at 275km/h while the second can reach 285km/h. Porsche also made changes to the suspension and braking system, ensuring even more excitement and thrill at the wheel.
The 718 Boxster models feature as standard six-speed manual gearbox. The Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) is also available and now has a feature to save fuel with the virtual changes.
New chapter, new design
To launch the new model, Porsche also made changes in terms of design. The roadster receives a wider front section with larger air intakes in order to express the new concept of turbo engines. The 718 Boxster also features new bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. Four-point LED daytime running lights are available as an option. In profile the model features the new stylized wings, new sills and larger air intakes with two fins. The doors are now designed without door handles protectors. At the back the 718 Boxster has a wider appearance, especially due to the integrated strip between the taillights with the "Porsche" badge. The completely redesigned rear lights are distinctive thanks to the use of three-dimensional LED technology and the four-point brake lights.
