Porsche unveils 2011 version of its 911 GT3 RSR

Porsche is presenting the updated version of its 911 GT3 RSR that will be racing on the tracks on the 2011 motorsport season. The presentation of the 2011 version of the world’s most successful GT race car took place at the “Night of Champions” party held at the R&D Centre in Weissach to mark the end of the 2010 motorsport season. The main focus from engineer for the 2011 version was given to the newly designed aerodynamics at the front and rear, to the suspension kinematics and to the engine.

The 2011 is powered by the same 4.0-litre, six-cylinder boxer engine, whose power has been enhanced to 455 hp at 7,800 rpm, an increase of five hp compared to its predecessor. The power upgrade was possible thanks to the engine management system which adapts even better to different fuel grades, as well as a redesigned exhaust system and a modified air intake housing. The driveability has also been improved on the new GT3 RSR, with maximum revs remaining at 9,400 rpm.

The clearest modifications can be found at the front of the new 911 GT3 RSR. The 2011 version has a new front lip that provides higher downforce at the front axle. The race car has been fitted with wider front wheels, with rims growing from 11 to 12 inches giving additional grip and less of an understeering tendency.

The rear wing also suffered modifications in terms of its position as well as its mounting shape. In order to optimize air ducting the rear id also received a new design. As it happened with the 911 GT3 Cup and the GT3 R, the RSR will now be equipped with the LED rear lights taken from the latest 911 road-legal cars.

Joining the 911 GT3 R and the 911 GT3 Cup as the top model of Porsche Motorsport’s product range, the 911 GT3 RSR will be sold at a price of 410,000 Euro plus country-specific value added tax. For the 2010 models, Porsche will also offer a kit with all 2011 modifications.
