is working on a diesel hybrid supercar that will take on the upcoming raft of supercars from PorschePorschePorscheGermany, 1931 > present43 models

Lending this rumor more credence is that after Autoexpress wrote about the rumor, Audi's official Twitter linked to it and copied the quote, "If we make this car it will be the absolute best supercar." That is obviously not official confirmation, but it makes this rumor much more interesting.

"If we make this car it will be the absolute best supercar, and completely different in concept to the R8. It will be very Vorsprung Durch Technik, very innovative," said Franciscus Van Meel, boss of Audi Quattro GmbH, Audi's performance division.

The company wants to bring its Le Mans-winning technology to the road as a halo car. It is similar to what it did with the racing R8R8Audi R8Germany, 2000 > 20057 versions

but an even more radical step because no one has mass-produced a diesel supercar.

Van Meel said that the car would be better than the McLaren P1

Audi has experimented with a diesel supercar in the past. The R8R8 V12 TDiAudi R8 V12 TDiGermany, 2008 > present2 photos
had a Le Mans concept that used a V12 TDI, but it was never produced.

The new car would have even more performance than the R8 and take on the Porsche 918, Ferrari EnzoEnzo FerrariFerrari Enzo FerrariItaly, 2002 > 20044 photos
