At next month’s Geneva Motor Show Rinspeed will present, as in previous occasions, a new concept vehicle: the UC. However, this year the Swiss brand has created not only a car but a whole new mobility concept, based on that particular vehicle.
The UC?, acronym for Urban Commuter, is a small two-seater city car that is powered by an electric engine. With only 2.60 meters of length the UC? was developed to progressively avoid traffic jams in major cities.
The Rinspeed concept vehicle is also prepared for a new mobility concept conceived by the Swiss make. The UC? is prepared for an advanced railcar loading system that would add the option of traveling by train in long distance trips. This new mobility concept would represent an integration of individual car ownership and public transportation.
The electric engine that powers the UC? concept produces 130 Nm of torque and reaches a top speed of 120 km/h. With statistics showing that in Europe 82 percent of all trips cover distances of less than 60 kilometers, the 105 kilometers of range of the UC? seems to be sufficient for daily basis usage.
One of the main features of the Rinspeed UC? is the absence of the steering wheel that in this case is substituted by a force-feedback joystick.
In case it enters series production, the UC? has already a modular production strategy in order to guarantee that the car will be built as cost efficient as possible.
