Not to be outdone by their VW-Group sibling Audi, Škoda have unveiled their own concept car at the Wörthersee GTI-Tuning festival. The unlikely lovechild of a Fabia vRS road car and the Fabia S2000 rally car, the RS 2000 is equipped with a 2.0-litre, twin-turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which Škoda loosely claims is producing ‘over 200bhp’ in this application, whilst weighing in at a relatively lithe 1200kg.
Alongside the power hike, the RS 2000 has had its front and rear tracks widened by over 120 millimetres apiece over the road car, with white 18-inch alloy wheels – heavily suggestive of the rally car’s – nestling under heavily blistered front and rear wheelarches.
The strong design language is continued with rally-style front bumper and cooling ducts, bolstered sideskirts, a rear diffuser and Škoda’s signature metallic green paintwork.
However, by far the most obvious visual modification comes in the form of the missing roof and radically altered glasshouse – Škoda claiming the heavily raked windscreen allows occupants to feel at one with nature.
Meanwhile, the interior offers carbonfibre-trimmed doorcards and dashboard, along with four-point harnesses and bucket seats for front-row occupants, the seats also being piped that distinctive green.
Like many other VW-Group concepts, the design concept was commissioned, designed and built specifically for the increasingly prestigious GTI-Treffen festival. A handbuilt one-off, like many Wörthersee concepts, the RS 2000 has little to no chance of making production; although Škoda claim the roadster shows ‘what the company can do with a Fabia.’
