The new EV sedan is slated to cost half of the Model S, which means US prices will start around $32,000.
In the mean time, Tesla will launch the Model X crossover that shares the same platform and powertrain as the Model S.
"We are working on the Model X SUV now and then the third-generation car remains on track for launch in three years," said Tesla vice president Jerome Guillen.
Tesla has hinted that it may change the brand’s styling direction with the smaller sedan to be more avante garde, but Tesla has not revealed any images or renderings of the car yet.
