1.6 D-4D. Toyota’s engineers in Belgium returned the 111hp and 199lb-ft (270Nm) diesel to make it work with the company’s transmissions and electronics. The engine emits 119g/km of CO2.It uses different engine mounts, a dual-mass flywheel, new gearing and stop/start system in the Toyota version.
“At Toyota, we believe that tackling environmental challenges facing our industry will require more than one approach. Hybrid is at the core of our strategy towards sustainable mobility, but we also see a role for clean diesel in Europe,” said Didier Leroy, President and CEO of Toyota Europe.
The two automotive giants have an agreement to develop next generation lithium-air batteries together, create a hybrid sports car that combines their strengths and work on fuel cell technology. Toyota also may use BMW’s diesel engines on Toyota-branded models in Europe. The deal prevents them from using the engines in LexusLexusJapan, 1989 > present26 models
