Volkswagen Commercial Launches Oldtimer Restoration Service

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has begun an olditmer restoration service that will focus on the VW Type 2 Bus. The 7,000m² facility in Hannover has been restoring buses since 2007, but VW is now expanding this service out to private owners who want to send their buses for the highest level restoration.

The service employs 13 workers who have access to lathes, milling machines and all of the other machines that would be necessary to restoring Type 2 buses. The team will also paint cars or provide inspections, if the patron does not desire a full restoration.  

Each restored vehicle will get a certification that provides comphrensive documentation on what was done including photos. 

German Law defines an oldtimer as a vehicle 30 years old or older. Drivers of oldtimers do not have to maintain emissions like newer cars, but there is a limit on yearly driving.
