Volkswagen announced a new version of the Passat Wagon that bridges the gap between a station wagon and a SUV. The new Passat Alltrak sits higher than a standard Passat Wagon and wears wider wheels wells, side sill flairs and what Volkswagen calls SUV-style bumpers.
The Passat Alltrak is meant to be a more rugged Passat. The higher approach and departure angles mean that the vehicle can take on rougher conditions. The car will be available with two petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol engines produce 160ps and 210ps, and the TDI engines produce 140ps and 170ps. The 210ps petrol engine and 170ps diesel Alltraks come standard with Volkswagen 4motion all-wheel drive and DSG transmission. The 140ps diesel engine has 4motion has an option.
The 140ps diesel consumes 5.7l/100km and produces 150g/km of CO2. The 170ps diesel consumes 5.8l/100km and produces 152g/km of CO2.
Volkswagen will unveil the Passat Alltrak at the Tokyo Auto Show and will launch in early 2012.
