Volvo Cars and Polestar are getting ready for the new season of the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) where they will be defending last year’s title. But before they head off to the track they are presenting a street car prototype produced by Polestar’s racing engineers and designers: the Volvo C30 Polestar Performance Concept Prototype.
Based on Polestar’s experience of developing the Volvo C30 into a winning race car, this prototype reflects the know-how that Polestar has on the C30's aerodynamic and driving properties. The Volvo C30 Polestar Concept Prototype is powered by a T5 2.5-litre engine.
“It’s particularly inspiring to develop this specific C30. This car is built just in the way we want to do it. Polestar has probably spent more time than anyone else in the world to get speed out of the C30, and this time we can realize ideas without being halted by specific race regulations”, says Jan Andersson, technical director at Polestar Racing.
Through the Volvo C30 Polestar Concept Prototype, Polestar’s aim is to continue to improve the driving characteristics of the standard C30 and to show the connection between the racing cars and the Polestar Performance products. These products, the only engine optimizations for Volvo cars covered by Volvos original warranty, are sold through Volvos dealers on several markets and don’t alter the certified fuel consumption and emissions.
Polestar has been partnering with Volvo for several years now and has raced with 850, S40, and S60. In 2009, Polestar won the STCC for Volvo Cars with the fully developed C30.
The car will have its first public appearance at Gothenburg Motor show on April 22-25.
