Porsche opened the doors to the 2013 911 GT3 at the Geneva Motor Show.

The latest generation gets to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds, which is about half a second faster than the previous GT3, and a top speed of 315km/h, 3km/h better than the previous gen. Power comes from a new tune of Porsche’s 3.8-liter boxer-six engine. It is 41hp more powerful than the standard version of the previous-gen GT3 and 24hp more powerful than the previous GT3 RS. Porsche says that the power boost is thanks to titanium connecting rods and forged pistons that heightens the redline to 9,000rpm, up 1,000rpm from even the previous-gen GT3 RS.

The only transmission available in the new GT3 will the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

In addition to the faster straight-line performance, the latest car should be a better handling car as well. It will be the first Porsche ever to feature active rear wheel steering. It also gets an electronic rear differential and suspension that can be adjusted in height, toe and camber.

For racing homologation, the GT3 is 44mm (1.7in) wider than a standard 911 at the rear.

The GT3 also comes with 20in center-lock wheels and a fixed rear wing.

It has also been made in Cabriolet and Targa versions. Larger and clearly more sophisticated than Porsche’s previous models, the rear-engined 911 was said to be the main opponent to the Jaguar E Type,...  more
