has taken the wraps off of its new CT03 Formula 1 chassis, and it will take to the track at Jerez later today. It is the first car to come out of Caterham's Leafield Technical Centre.

The first thing most people will notice when they see the CT03 is that Caterham chose not to cover up the stepped nose from last season. Lotus made the same decision, but most of the teams covered the stepped nose. Technical director Mark Smith says that the car is an evolution on the CT01CT01Caterham CT01United Kingdom, 2012 > 20125 photos

The side pods have been re-sculpted to improve airflow to the rear. The diffuser, engine cover and cooling exits have also been changed to give better aerodynamics. It also changed the sidepod turning vanes and lower tea-tray.

The team will race the car as seen here in Australia but is developing a new front wing, rear wing and diffuser to be installed later.

"Personally I am excited about the season ahead, and the challenges that face us. Regardless of the resources and budget available, all the teams will be racing in 2013 with one eye on next year when the new rules may present opportunities to make significant gains, much greater than those available under static rules. Our whole team is ready for its fourth season in F1 and I am sure it is going to be another thrilling championship," said Smith

Caterham also gave the car a new livery that keeps the team green and yellow paint but finds a new way to apply it.

"Every team wants to be as competitive as possible this year, but with such fundamental rule changes next year resources and budgets dictate that there will have to be a cut-off point in the development of the current season cars so focus can be switched to 2014. We will bring updates to the car after several races and I am happy that the plan we have for 2013 will give us the chance to fight this year," said Tony Fernandes, Co-Chairman of Caterham Group.

The Caterham will be driven by Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde this season.

The team says that it is already developing its 2014 chassis.
