Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean is under pressure from his team and other drivers to improve his driving, especially after making contact with Mark Webber in the first lap of the Japanese Grand Prix. Grosjean has been in eight crashes this season and was barred from racing in the Italian Grand Prix.
After the incident, Webber called Grosjean a "first-lap nutcase" and suggested that he should be banned from another race.
"I haven't obviously seen what happened at the start but the guys confirmed that it was the first-lap nutcase again, Grosjean.
"The rest of us are trying to fight for some decent results each weekend but he is trying to get to the third corner as fast as he can at every race.
"It makes it frustrating because a few big guys probably suffered from that and maybe he needs another holiday," said Webber in an interview of Sky TV.
Lotus team manager Eric Boullier says that he has been working to push Grosjean harder and be tougher with him.
"I have spoken a lot with him. We changed the routine, we tried to make it not more comfortable because I needed a tougher environment for him, and I needed to push him, but he is the only one who can fix this. Nobody else," said Boullier.
Boullier went on to say that blames Grosjean’s performance of lack of confidence in F1. He believes that Grosjean needs to understand that crashing the car does not just affect him, but also the team.
"If you look at his career he was a bit of a hot-headed driver until he got some confidence, but F1 is not as patient as a junior category," he said.
Grosjean has five more races to improve his performance for the year or risk losing a seat in Formula 1 for the second time.
