McLaren Needs Upgrades According to Both Drivers

Neither car performed well, especially Button who had problems even in qualifying

Lewis Hamilton spent the morning carrying the Olympic Torch, but he and his teammate Jenson Button are rather unhappy with the current McLaren MP4-27MP4-27McLaren MP4-27United Kingdom, 2012 > 20125 photos
.

"A long way away. But we'll keep working and hopefully try and catch up. We are still in the fight, but unless we find a lot of time, it's going to be hard to stay in the fight," said Hamilton.

His teammate Button was even more blunt when it came to the car.

"Our car doesn't feel too bad, but everyone else's must feel really good, because they're a lot faster than us. I was racing the WilliamsFW34Williams FW34United Kingdom, 2012 > 20122 photos

, and you see areas where they're able to put the car and get away with it, and make mistakes and get away with it. I don't understand how they're able to do that," said Button.

Specifically, he said that the Sauber is faster in high-speed corners and the Williams is faster in low speed corners. The team thought that Silverstone would suit the car well, and clearly they were wrong.

Hamilton finished eighth, but was as high as second in yesterday's British Grand Prix. Button finished 10th and started in 16th.

The next race at Hockenheim mixes slow speed corners and fast straights. If Button is right, then the McLarenMcLarenMcLarenUnited Kingdom, 1963 > present92 models

It is really a shame that McLaren isn't doing so good this season. I'd like to see Hamilton in the podium again.
