has had a rough beginning of the season in Formula 1. In the first two races, it has only had one car in the points in each race and currently sits in seventh place in the constructors' championship tied with Sauber with seven points. McLaren claims that it has identified the problems with the car and has a comprehensive system of upgrades to improve the car for the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend.

The team says that there was more than one problem with the car, and China will be its first opportunity to test the fixes. Friday practice at China will be the time for real world testing of the new pieces. The team says that it already added some of the upgrades at the Malaysian Grand Prix, but clearly it was not enough to make up the difference.

"I believe we do know where the problems are on the car.

"We need to run the package we have in China in order to be absolutely sure, so Friday is a very key element," said McLaren Managing Director Jonathan Neale.

The team does not believe that it is out of championship contention yet. It is only two races into the 19-race calendar, and it is conceivably possible to improve things.

McLaren admits that the team has a lot of work to do to improve the car.

"We are not under any illusions about the amount of work we need to do to get the pace back into the car.

"There is no one thing, no magic bullet; there are a number of things that will restore the performance of the car," said Neale.
