Bentley will unveil at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show the much anticipated
Bentayga. This is the first luxury SUV in the history of the brand and according to Bentley is "the fastest, most powerful, most luxurious and most exclusive SUV in the world."
Despite the price and the dimensions, the Bentayga will take
Mulsanne's place as Bentley's flagship model. The brand will focus in its promotion as a solid vehicle, durable and luxurious.
The British brand has been a forerunner in creating the first luxury SUV in the world, ahead of
Rolls-Royce and
Lamborghini. The model hits the market next year and will try to win over customers who have long waited for a luxury SUV, specifically since the presentation of the EXP 9 F in 2012.
In terms of design the Bentayga is significantly different from the concept launched in 2012, much criticized by public and even by the
Volkswagen Group managers. However, the idea of creating a luxury SUV gained increasing strength within the company and the result is in sight. The Bentayga has a lot more of Bentley style in its design. The SUV is 5,14m long and has a wheelbase of almost three meters, slightly longer than the
Range Rover. However, the Bentayga is 60mm lower than the Range Rover, an option to give the Bentley model a sportier look.
The platform used for building the Bentley Bentayga is a variation of MLB-Evo which was already used on the new
Audi Q7 and the same that will be the base of the next generation
Porsche Cayenne.
Engine and performance
To equip the Bentayga, Bentley redesigned the bi-turbo W12 petrol engine with 608hp and 900Nm. The brand states that it managed to improve engine efficiency by 11.9% while reducing the weight by 30kg. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system with a Torsen center differential.
According to Bentley, the Bentayga reaches 100km/h in 4.1 seconds, and a speed of 301km/h, surprising values for a vehicle with 2422kg. With an average consumption of 16l/100km, the Bentayga produces 292g/km of CO2.
The first units of the Bentley Bentayga will reach buyers in early 2016.
