, but the Barcelona Taxi is completely electric. The city has committed to building the infrastructure to support the cars. Barcelona wants to be the first city in the world to have a completely zero-emission taxi fleet.

The e-NV200 will be built in Barcelona in 2014 after €100 million is invested in the factory. It will employ 700 additional people to build them. Nissan is working with other cities worldwide to supply more taxis.

The e-NV200 uses the same platform as the standard van. The electric versions are taken off the line midway through production to have their electric drivetrain installed.

Barcelona will be responsible for building the charging infrastructure and giving special privileges for zero emissions vehicles. The first priority will be creating quick charging stations at airports and railway stations.

"We applaud Barcelona city for making this clear commitment to integrating the revolutionary Nissan e-NV200 electric vehicle into the city's taxi fleet. We are delighted that the city where we will build this new vehicle is leading the way in promoting clean transportation for the benefit for all its citizens and visitors,” said Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.
