is preparing to launch a Spider variant of the model. The Italian brand has just unveiled the design of the future model, that will be hitting the market in 2015, at the Geneva Motor Show. The car has a canvas roof, headlight design, rims and exhaust different from the coupé.
Compared to the coupé, Alfa Romeo claims that it managed to limit weight increase to 60kg in the Spider version. This was possible thanks to the use of a lightweight canvas canopy, plus the rollover hoops, spoilers and the carbon fibre frame of the windscreen. Alfa Romeo worked on the 4C Spider aerodynamics to reduce turbulence with the roof down.
The 4C SpiderAlfa Romeo 4C SpiderItaly, 2014 > 2014 gets a new dual-stage central exhaust in titanium and carbon that was developed by racing bike exhausts brand Akrapovic. The new exhaust system is equipped with an electrically activated valve which improves the performance and increases the tune of the exhaust with the push of a button.
Design changes are most noticeable in the headlights and the rims, two areas where the coupe has been criticized the most. It hasn't been confirmed yet that the new carbon fibre headlights and milled aluminium wheels fitted with exclusive Pirelli tires will be used in the production version, or if the changes will also be applied to the Coupé. The 4C Spider concept was painted with three coats of gloss white, which helps to highlight the sculpted shape of the car and its surfaces.
Regarding engine, the 4C Spider is identical to the coupe, with power being generated by the same four-cylinder aluminum 1750cc turbo petrol engine, with rear wheel drive and a six-speed dual clutch TCT gearbox. Alfa Romeo states that the Spider can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds and reache a top speed of more than 250km/h, just like the coupé.
