, ahead of the world premiere which will take place next week at the Geneva Motor Show. The model follows a path of evolution keeping all integral elements of the first generation, on sale since 2006.

According to the technical director of development at Audi, Ulrich Hackenberg, while developing the new R8 the brand has updated or redesigned each of the car's components using the knowledge acquired in the LMP and LMS competition programs.

In terms of design the new R8 retains the essential format of the first generation, however, Audi states that all exterior elements are new. The second generation model gets a new single-frame grille, new LED headlights, a new side blade and a body entirely in aluminum.

The new Audi supercar can also be purchased with laser headlights technology, and dynamic turning lights. At the rear, the dynamic turning lights will be fitted as standard.

In terms of dimensions, the new R8 measures 4442mm long, 1944mm wide and 1241mm high. These values represent the same length as the first generation of the R8, however, the model is 39mm wider and 9mm lower. Audi also reduced the weight of the new R8 elements through the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic. For example, in the case of R8 V10 Plus weight reduction was 66kg for a total of 1454kg.

Engines

At launch in late 2015 the new R8 will be available with a fairly updated version of the 5.2 liter V10 engine from the first generation. The engine will be available with two different outputs.

The new V10 engine is now available with cylinder on-demand technology and comes only fitted with an automatic seven-speed dual-clutch S-tronic transmission.
