we can spot the first details of the design of the new Range Rover VelarRange Rover VelarLand Rover Range Rover VelarUnited Kingdom, 2017 > present. First thing we notice is a much smoother silhouette compared to the remaiming Range Rover members. The small rear window indicates the coupé-like design which makes the Velar less boxy than other models in the range.
 
One of the big features of the new modelRange Rover VelarLand Rover Range Rover VelarUnited Kingdom, 2017 > present will certainly be the panoramic sunroof, which also allows us to take a first look at the new infotainment system, with two screens. The interior seems similar to the one shown at last year's Los Angeles Motor Show in the all-electric Jaguar I-Pace SUV conceptI-PaceJaguar I-PaceUnited Kingdom, 2016 > 2016.

Origin of Range Rover Velar's name

 
There is an historic origin for the Velar nameRange Rover VelarLand Rover Range Rover VelarUnited Kingdom, 2017 > present chosen for the fourth model in the Range Rover family. It goes all the way back to 1969 when the original Range Rover prototypes were built and named Velar. The name was used to hide the identity of the 26 pre-production units of the original Range Rover. Velar derives from the Latin word “velaris” which means to veil or cover.
