Focus Touring Car presented in Geneva

Ford to dominate the 2011 British Touring Car Championship.  Well, maybe not dominate. How about; Ford to participate in the BTTC.  Ford showed off the Focus it plans to use as it’s re-entry to the BTTC at the Geneva Motor Show.

Ford has been teasing race fans since they debuted the “Focus Race Car Concept” at the 2010 Los Angles Autoshow.  Since then, according to Ford’s Joe Capito, “There has been tremendous interest in the new Focus from the racing community, and it’s the perfect fit for a global touring car.”  Then, late last year Ford made known its intention to return to motor sport with its 2012 global Focus platform.

Developed by Arena Motorsports and powered by Fords 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine, Team Aon will run the new Focus in all 10 rounds of the BTCC.  Because the Focus can also be fitted with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine, it’s probable the Focus will find its way into many other racing series around the globe.

Look for the Focus Touring Car’s track debut in the UK at Brands Hatch in just a few weeks time.  Then start looking for them at a racetrack near you.
