Volkswagen has announced that it will be presenting the new Golf Cabriolet at the 81st Geneva International Motor Show. The successful model is receiving an innovative soft top with an electro-hydraulic drive that opens the Golf’s top in just 9.5 seconds.
The Golf Cabriolet has been developed based on the hard-top three-door variant. Still it received a different rear section lower profile roof line and more swept-back angle of its front windscreen frame. Bi-xenon headlights can be ordered for the new Golf Cabriolet, while the LED rear lights like those of the GTI, come as standard. Safety features such as the automatically deploying roll-over bar, front airbags, side head/thorax airbags, knee airbag for the driver and ESP also feature as standard.
The soft top of the new Cabriolet from VW has been developed in order to create one of the quietest convertibles on the market. The soft top has been fitted with a hydraulic drive that opens the Golf’s top extremely quickly. The top can also be opened or closed during driving at speeds of up to 30 km/h.
The Golf Cabriolet will be powered by six turbocharged direct-injection engines that will deliver power between 77 kW / 105 PS and 155 kW / 210 PS. Four of the petrol engines (TSI) and one diesel (TDI) are available with the DSG dual-clutch gearbox. Three of them will be fitted with the energy saving BlueMotion Technology.
Fuel efficiency will be part of the Golf Cabriolet range. For example, the 1.6 TDI with 105 PS and BlueMotion Technology has an average fuel consumption of 4.4 l/100 km, equivalent to 117 g/km CO2.
