says that it has no intention to introduce hybrid models anytime soon at least in Europe and the US. Instead, it will focus on wringing out the most efficiency from internal combustion engines.

"While downsizing can be an effective method for reducing emissions, adding an electric boost often merely offsets the loss in power from reduced displacement.

"We want to make sure our engines are optimally designed, to make better effect of the benefits of combined battery power,” said a Mazda R&D spokesman to AOL Cars UK.

Mazda has introduced its SkyActiv philosophy to its range of cars that uses a more holistic approach. It uses more efficient engines, transmissions with more gears, better aerodynamics and lower vehicle weight to create more efficient cars.
