pickup truck twins. Both trucks share a platform, engines, suspension, brakes and some production locations. All that separates them is the exterior and interior styling. The Sierra is meant to be a more work-ready truck. 

“Our customers rely on their trucks to meet the day-to-day challenges of earning a living, running a business and taking care of their families,” said Mark Reuss, president of GM North America.

The major difference between them is the front. The Sierra has a large, rectangular-shaped front with headlights surrounded by LED headlights. The Silverado has a two-tier with separated headlights. To reduce weight, the hood is made from aluminum. The suspension has also been lightened. 

Both trucks are available in standard and Extended Cab models with front-hinged rear doors. There are also two bed lengths: either 5ft 8in or 6ft 6in. The regular cab model also gets an 8ft bed option only on the GMC Sierra.

The interiors also get major upgrades including a better design to reduce wind noise, redesigned mirrors

The trucks are available with three engines: a 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and a 6.2-liter V8. All of the engines are equipped with direct injection, variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation. All of them come with a six-speed automatic.

The trucks also get new Duralife brake rotors made from hardened surfaces that are meant to last longer than conventional rotors. They also get electric power steering for the first time.
