than could run as a parallel hybrid, series hybrid and pure EV it all seemed quite unbelievable. Mitsubishi is not a large automaker, and it seemed astounding that it would be able to pull off such a cutting edge vehicle. However, at the Paris Motor Show Mitsubishi will debut the Outlander PHEV.

The Outlander PHEV is based on the new Outlander that is already on sale in Russia and goes on sale in the rest of Europe in September. The truck's powertrain is complicated to say the least. It has a standard engine and transaxle in the front. An electric motor and generator are also mounted in the front. They are linked to a battery in the middle of the car to feed and use power. In the rear there is another electric motor and transaxle that can feed or take power from the battery.

The Outlander PHEV can run in three different modes. The pure EV mode obviously allows the car to drive completely on electric power. The Series Hybrid Mode has the internal combustion engine acting as a generator for the electric powertrain. do. Drivers can switch to this mode on the fly to charge the batteries. Finally, the Parallel Hybrid Mode has the electric motor working in addition to the internal combustion engine, but Mitsubishi says that this mode is only used at high speeds.

The truck has a 12kWh battery pack that allows for 55km of pure electric driving. Mitsubishi says that it takes 4.5 hours to charge fully on a 200v source or 30 minutes for an 80% charge from its quick charger. The car has a total range of 880km, and Mitsubishi predicts 1.639l/100km fuel economy. However, it has not submitted the car to the EU for certification yet.

The engine is linked only to the front wheels. When operating with all-wheel drive, the rear electric motor is providing the power.

Each electric motor produces 80hp, and the internal combustion engine has 94hp. That means there is a theoretical maximum of 254hp, but the system is only going to use all of that power in Parallel Hybrid Mode. Most times 160hp total power will be available from the two electric motors, but because of Mitsubishi's all-wheel drive system, the rear motor will only be used when necessary. That means that depending on your driving, the car will have between 80hp and 254hp at any moment. The truck weighs 1810kg.
