compact sedan due to go on sale this fall in Europe.
The Rapid is the first Skoda to wear the brand's new design language. It is clean and modern with flat surfaces and deep creases. It has a new chrome-outlined grill and a rounded hood that bends over the front of the car.
Skoda is not revealing the engine options for the Rapid yet, but it says that it will offer 5 petrol engines and two diesels.
"This is a model which sets benchmarks in the compact saloon segment: The ŠKODA Rapid is a roomy, elegant and at the same time an affordable car for the whole family, impressing with clever solutions, cutting-edge technology and high economy. In short, it is a car permitting mobility in a comfortable, reasonably priced and environmentally friendly package. The right car at the right time,” says ŠKODA CEO Winfried Vahland.
The Rapid is based on the MissionL concept that Skoda showed on the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011. It rides on the same platform as the Volkswagen Vento that VW sells in India, which is actually an extended version of the Polo platform. Skoda says that the Rapid fits between the FabiaSkoda Fabia Gen.2Czech Rep., 2007 > present280 versions

in its lineup.
Skoda is betting that the new Rapid will sell especially well in Central and Eastern Europe. The A segment sedan market is projected to grow by 50% by 2020, according to Skoda.
Skoda will show the production version at the Paris Motor Show at the end of September, and it will go on sale later this fall.
