concept. After first being shown at the Paris Motor Show, it was revived last year as the Sport Quattro Concept. Now Audi will show a further update with laser headlights at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 6 to 10.

“This show car embodies our engineering competence and shows cutting-edge electronic features such as high-performance laser-light headlights,” said Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, head of technical development at Audi.

The latest update to the 691hp plug-in hybrid sports coupe adds laser-powered headlights, and it is repainted in Plasma Red. The headlights combine Audi’s active matrix LEDs with laser light. The outer headlights use the LEDs for the low beams, and the inner headlights use lasers for the high beams.

The advantage of lasers is that they are even smaller and more power efficient than LEDs, and they can illuminate the road up to 500m (1,640ft).

The laser headlight tech will also be used on the 2014 R18 E-tron QuattroR18 e-tron quattroAudi R18 e-tron quattroGermany, 2014 > present racecar.

Other than the new headlights and color, the Sport Quattro Laserlight Concept is identical to the previous Sport Quattro.
