Motorsport just entered the World Rally Championship this season, and its team of Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia has mathematically won the WRC Drivers’ Championship during the Rallye de Alsace.

“To have won the World Championship title in France is an absolute dream come true. For the last few days I have been trying not to think too much about it, in order to avoid making any mistakes. The relief now is immense. As a little boy, I used to marvel at the cars and top drivers at the Rally Monte Carlo with my father in my home town of Gap – and now Julien and I are World Rally Champions,” said Ogier.

For Ogier to lose the championship, Thierry Neuville had to score maximum points in the rest of the rallies in the season. He finished second. By not taking the maximum points in the Power Stage, Neuville mathematically guaranteed the championship to Ogier.

has won a championship. It is also the first time that a new driver/co-driver pairing has won the world championship in nearly a decade.

“I am particularly pleased that Volkswagen has become the first manufacturer in the history of the World Rally Championship to claim its maiden WRC title in its debut season,” Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, founder of the Volkswagen WRC project.

In the ten rounds so far this season Ogier and Ingrassia took six wins and two places.

Ogier’s team at Volkswagen has not necessarily secured the championship yet. With three rounds left, Volkswagen has a 48-point lead in the manufacturers’ championship over the CitroënCitroënCitroënFrance, 1919 > present94 models
