Urban racing in 1978
In August 1978, so 31 years ago, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch has adapted a gyroscopically stabilized camera in front of a Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 and a friend invited professional Formula 1 driver to make a path in the heart of Paris ... as fast as he could.

The time was soon to dawn.
The film could only afford 10 minutes and the trip was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre to the basilica of SacreCoeur.
Lelouch could not allowed to ban any street in the dangerous path to go.

The pilot completed the circuit in 9 minutes, reaching 324 km per hour at times.
The film shows him sticking a red light, almost running over pedestrians, scaring pigeons and getting into one-way streets.
The sun was not even born.

When showed the film in public for the first time, Claude Lelouch was arrested.
Never reveal the name of Formula 1 (AP) who drove the machine and the film was banned, only going to circulate in the underground.

If you have not seen the classic, hold your breath and click the link.
If you've seen, look again.
It is worth to enjoy the thrill of walking in Paris as if aboard a Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9.
