10 most sold makes in Europe until September

Another quarter is over and brands are making their periodic evaluation. Here at Autoviva we are checking which brands have attracted most drivers in Europe showing you the Top 10 list of the most sold makes in Europe in the first three quarters of 2012.

The leadership continues unarguable but for some people there might be some surprises coming from the European premium brands.

So here are the Top 10 most sold brands in Europe until September. Tell us what you think.

10. Fiat

Fiat profits are being pushed up by the results of Chrysler in the US. The Italian brand's sales have fell 17.1% this year to a total of 452.100 units. This result puts Fiat in tenth position in the list of the 10 most sold makes in the European market in the first three quarters.

9. Mercedes-Benz

The new A-Class is yet to go on sale, but with 70.000 orders already confirmed in Europe, Mercedes-Benz will probably improve on its results. For now the brand lies in ninth position having sold a total of 454.254 units from January to September.

8. BMW

BMW lands in eighth spot in the list of the most sold makes in Europe with a total of 480,986 units sold throughout the first nine months of the year. The Bavarian make has been holding on its sales thanks to the success of the new BMW 1 and 3 Series.

7. Citroën

PSA has managed to put both her brands in this list and the first one to show up is Citroën, that stands in seventh position. The French make is suffering the effects of the European crisis and until September has sold 528.726 units, 12.1% less than in 2011.

6. Audi

Audi continues after the first three quarters of 2012 to be the top-selling premium brand in Europe. The Ingolstadt make sold a total of 550.340 units over the first nine months of the year to land on sixth spot on the list of the 10 most sold makes in Europe.

5. Peugeot

Just like Citroën, Peugeot is still hanging on to its' position amongst the 10 most sold brands in Europe. Until the end of September the French make sold a total of 620.692 units, putting her in fifth position.

4. Renault

Although it has suffer a slump of 21% in sales Renault still features as the fourth most sold brand in 2012 until the end of September. In the first three quarters of the year the French make sold 629.673 units.

3. Opel/Vauxhall

Opel/Vauxhall is facing one of the most challenging crisis of its history but is still a strong make in the European market. With a total of 659.573 units sold from January up to September Opel/Vauxhall is currently in third position amongst the most sold brands this year.

2. Ford

Ford is the only non-European brand to reach the Top-10 most sold makes in Europe until September. The american brand has sold a total of 747.718 throughout the first three quarters of 2012.

1. Volkswagen

Volkswagen continues to dominate the standings in the European market and in the first nine months of the years has sold an amazing total of 1.249.292 untis. The German brand has sold more than 500.000 than its closest rival Ford.
