The most sold brands in Europe in August

Discover the list with the most popular brands amongst European drivers

European Auto Sales fell to 686,957 vehicles in August, down 5%, from 722,458 in August 2012. Sales from January to August were also down 5% to 8.14 million cars, which is the lowest level since 1990. The fall in sales came as a surprise after sales in July increased by 5%.

Even in periods of crisis there are some brands that managed to overcome the difficulties of the European market and managed to rise to the occasion. Others however continue to suffer and linger desperatly needing the economic turnover to arrive.

Let's find out which were the most sold brands in Europe in August. Any guess on who will be leading the ranking?

10. Skoda

Skoda was in August the 10th most sold brand in Europe with a total of 30.093 units sold. The Czech brand is continuing to renovate all its' fleet in order to pursue it's goal of selling more than 1.5 million cars until 2018, however in the last few months sales have slightly fallen comparing to 2012.

9. Toyota

With a total of 31.125 units sold in August, Toyota was the ninth most popular brand in Europe last month. The Japanese brand continues to launch models specifically developped for Europe in order to attract customers. It's hybrid range is growing and so is it's popularity.

8. Peugeot

Peugeot's home market continues to make the brand's sales fall every single month. August wasn't different and Peugeot's sales fell 18.5% comparing to 2012 to a total of 37.718 sold cars. The French brand is continuing to invest on foreign markets, especially China and South America to face its' huge European crisis.

7. BMW

BMW was the third most sold premium brand in Europe in August with a growth of 9,3% comparing to 2012. The Bavarian brand sold a total of 39.077 units, with the 3 Series range being it's most popular model. With this result BMW was the seventh most sold brand in Europe in August

6. Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz compact models continue the brand's growth strategy, and with more new models being launched on the market, sales should continue to grow. In August Mercedes was the sixth most sold brand in Europe with a total of 39.286 cars, growing 5.9% comparing with 2012.

5. Opel/Vauxhall

Although Opel/Vauxhall continues to face one of its' most difficult financial period ever, the brand continues to be one of the most popular in Europe, landing in speeding through fifth place in our ranking of August. The brand sold a total of 42.140 cars last month, with the Corsa continuing to be its' most sold model.

4. Renault

The Clio is helping Renault fight back against the European crisis, and in August the brand had a slight recovery comparing to the same month last year. Last month the French brand was the fourth most sold brand in Europe with a total of 43.941 cars registered.

3. Ford

Ford grabs third place in the ranking of the most sold brands in Europe with a total of 44.004 registered cars. The Fiesta and Focus models continue to be popular amongst European drivers, but Ford is already preparing a new model strategy to be ready for the market's recovery.

2. Audi

Audi appears in a surprising second position in the ranking of the most sold brands in Europe in the month of August. The luxury continues on course to achieve it's goal of becoming the number one and sales in August grew 6.7% to 44.198 units. The A3 range has been a great asset on this journey.

1. Volkswagen

Although sales fell 16.9% comparing to month of August of 2012, Volkswagen continues to be the most sold brand in Europe. The brand sold a total of 86.206 units, almost double in numbers compared to the runner-up brand. Its' diversed range continues to attract a big share of drivers in Europe.
