Toyota says the PV002 has more reliable and more powerful

*Update: Toyota has added a second video that shows the PV002 testing at Paul Ricard. You can view it below the Nürburgring video below. It seems quieter than before, but that could just be the microphone placement inside the car.

at Le Mans, has tweaked the PV001 that they set the Nürburgring electric car record with last year. The new car has the designation PV002, and it will challenge the Pikes Peak in the electric class along with the I-MiEV Evolutioni-MiEV EvolutionMitsubishi i-MiEV EvolutionJapan, 2012 > present1 photo

The PV001, and PV002 are based on a highly modified Radical SR9SR9Radical SR9United Kingdom, 2006 > present2 versions

chassis. Toyota says that the PV002 is more powerful and more durable than its predecessor. The PV002 produces 350kW (470hp) and 900Nm of torque with gearing that will give it a 240km/h top speed at Pikes Peak. It is powered by an electric motor located in both rear wheels with two Toyota Motorsports-built inverters. It uses a cutting edge lithium ceramic battery with 42kWh of charge.

Toyota tested the PV002 at Paul Ricard to ensure its reliability and power for Pikes Peak. 

“Pikes Peak is a great showcase for TMG’s electric powertrain technology. We already proved at the Nürburgring that TMG is leading the way in developing such powertrains for motorsport and this is another sign of our commitment to this technology. TMG wants to be increasingly involved in electric motorsport and we believe our powertrain technology is an industry-leading combination of performance, durability and packaging," said Ludwig Zeller, General Manager Electric & Electronics at Toyota.

The Pikes Peak Hill Climb starts at 2,800m and goes to 4,300m that runs 12.42 miles.
