The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is holding a special exhibition until May 13, 2012, focusing on Warhol's automotive art. The exhibition includes the 1979 BMW M1 that Warhol painted as part of BMW's Art Car program. It is called Warhol and Cars: American Icons.
It features 40 drawings, paintings, photographs and the car spanning between 1946 and 1986. Warhol started his life as an artist creating advertising proofs, and the earliest images in the exhibition show some of the automotive advertising that he created. The rest of the collection features photos and prints that Warhol made in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
The M1 is on loan from the BMW Museum in Munich.
