Audi is showing at Geneva Motor Show its latest developments in hybrid drive technology with the A8 Hybrid Concept. The study vehicle from the four rings brand was developed to show that sportiveness can be combined with fuel efficiency
The A8 Hybrid is powered by a 2.0 TFSI and an electric motor, which combined produce a power output of 180kW and 480 Nm of torque. According to Audi the concept can reach a top speed of 235 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. This driving performance is combined with low fuel consumption, which should go up to 6.2 l/100km, with CO2 emissions of 144 g/km, which represents 20% less consumption in city traffic. The two powertrains are linked by a hydraulically operated wet clutch.
The electric engine is fed a lithium-ion battery, placed in the rear section of the vehicle, which is more compact, lighter and more powerful.
Especially suited for driving in the city or residencial suburbs, the A8 Hybrid can also drive on full-electric mode, at a maximum speed of 65 km/h and for more than two kilometers. In braking and slow-down phases, the e-motor is able to work as a generator and recuperate energy and feed it into the battery.
