and considering creating its own super-efficient car like the XL1. The car would use similar technology but a less extreme body than Volkswagen's car. The sub-2.0-liter Audi will not be into production until 2017 at the earliest. 

The Audi version would not be quite as efficient as the XL1 with less than 2.0l/100km fuel economy, compared to the 0.9l/100km from the XL1. The plan for the powertrain is a plug-in hybrid with either a three-cylinder diesel or three-cylinder petrol engine. It would have a combined system output of around 99hp.
