i3BMW i3Germany, 2014 > present electric car it is trying to create deals with as many European energy providers as possible. Its latest partner is Danish infrastructure operator CleanCharge. BMW i3 buyers will be able to charge their cars on CleanCharge’s Danish network.
“On behalf of EV users we need to get all market partners in Europe excited about convenient cross-provider and cross-border charging,” said Nils Dullum, CEO of CleanCharge.
BMW has created a separate joint venture called Hubject with Daimler, Siemens, Bosch and others to create these deals with European electricity suppliers. It believes that it will make the i3 more attractive to buyers if they know that they can drive throughout Europe with a single contract to charge their car. It calls this idea eRoaming.
BMW’s hope is to create deals that will allow i3 owners to charge their car at any compatible station in Europe.
Drivers pull up to the charger, scan a QR code with a specific app on their phone and enter an ID number. Their account will be charged without having to set up a contract with individual electricity suppliers.
