BMW and Brilliance Launch Zinoro Brand to Sell EVs in China

are launching a new brand in China specifically for EVs. They are calling the brand Zinoro, and it will use BMW platforms when it launches in 2014. The first cars will be shown near the end of 2013. 

The first Zinoro car is rumored to use the platform from the BMW X1X1BMW X1Germany, 2009 > present51 versions

and will be revealed at the Guangzhou Motor Show in November. The will be built at the BMW and Brilliance joint factory in Shenyang, China.

The brand will be positioned to be practical and have its own dealer network. Zinoro will not be marketed as an offshoot of BMW because BMW plans to sell its i3i3BMW i3Germany, 2011 > present26 photos

The Chinese government has been pushing for its automakers to export more cars and build more hybrid vehicles. It is also forcing automakers to create new brands when foreign automakers and domestic Chinese automakers collaborate on new models.
