In 2010 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce have sold a total of 1,461,166 vehicles, which represents a growth of 13,6% compared to the 1.286 million sold in 2009. With the second best sales result of all time, BMW Group has strengthened its position as the leading provider of premium vehicles.
“2010 was a very successful year for us. We are “spot on” with our new models and are building the cars people desire. We advanced on all continents, in large and small countries alike and continued with a good sales balance between Europe, Asia, and the Americas,” said Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG.
For 2011 the German group expects to remain the world’s top selling premium automaker and sales to grow up to 1.5 million units, which would set a new history record for the Group and its three brands. For that the company is counting on the success of its most recent add-ons to the model line-up, such as the BMW 5 Series, BMW X3, BMW X1 and MINI Countryman.
In 2010 the sales of the BMW brand rose 14.6% to a total of 1,224,280 vehicles, with the BMW 5 Series and BMW X1 being very well received by the customers. The flagship BMW 7 Series and the other X-models were also amongst the most sold models.
2010 was also a successful year for MINI as the brand set a new sales record, with a total of 234,175 vehicles sold, 8,1% more than in 2009. The successful launch of the MINI Countryman together the growing sales of the MINI Hatch and the MINI Convertible were responsible for these record figures.
Rolls-Royce also had an extraordinary year with sales rising 170.6%. The ultra-luxury brand sold 2,711 automobiles in 2010, remaining as clear market leader in its segment.
Sales of the BMW Group grew in almost every market in 2010. Germany continues to be the company’s largest market and in 2010 its sales grew 3.1%. In the US, BMW’s second largest market, sales have gone up by 9.9%, with a total of 265,757 deliveries.
China continues to be a market in expansion for all companies and BMW Group hasn’t been an exception. In 2010 the Group sold 168,998 units, which represented a growth of 86.7%.
In the UK sales grew 13.6%, with the company selling a total of 157,312 units and continuing to expand its market leadership of the local premium segment.
The BMW Group also registered sale increases in important emerging markets such as Russia (+26.7% to 21,585 units), South Korea (+74.7% to 19,222), Brazil (+54.5% to 9,886), and India (+72.6% to 6,246).
