BMW is presenting the successor of its top seller X3. The new generation of the X3 will establish benchmarks in agility and efficiency and will also have its driving comfort increased. The German brand is willing to “add a new dimension to the pleasure of driving a Sports Activity Vehicle of this class.” Featuring the typical BMW X character, with the stretched silhouette, the new X3 comes with an option between two engines which handle the BMW model the title of lowest-emission four-wheel drive model of the segment.
With elegance, durability and agility as its main design characteristics the new X3 combines a flat front end and a high rear, which gives it a sporty look. The front is dominated by the BMW kidney grille, the large headlight assembly, the front-apron and the bonnet with its six contour lines connecting to the kidney grill. The round headlights and the fog lamps complete the triangular light source arrangement, which is a feature from the BMW X models.

The new generation of the X3 will be available in two different versions: the xDrive20d and the xDrive35i. According to BMW the 2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine fitted in the xDrive20d offers better performance and higher efficiency than its rivals. It boasts a power output of 184 PS at 4000 and torque of 380 Nm between 1,750 and 2,750 rpm. Being able to reach a top speed of 210 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, the xDrive20d delivers an average fuel consumption of 5.6 l/100 km, which correspond to CO2 emissions of 149 g/km. Fitted with an automatic transmission the diesel engine reduces emissions to 147 g/km, while keeping the same acceleration, top speed and fuel consumption values.
As for the xDrive35i, according to BMW it offers a “spontaneous response, high-revving characteristics, excellent running smoothness and efficient fuel economy.” The straight six-cylinder BMW engine features an innovative technological concept with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, High Precision Injection and variable valve control VALVETRONIC being combined for the first time. The 3.0l engine has a maximum power output of 306 PS, at 5,800 rpm, and maximum torque of 400 Nm, at 1,300 rpm. Thanks to this powertrain the X3 acclerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 245 km/h. In this version average fuel consumption is 8.8 litres/100 km with CO2 emissions of 204 g/km.
The BMW X3 xDrive35i will be the first car to combine an automatic transmission with an Auto Start Stop function. The Auto Start Stop function will also feature as standard in the X3 xDrive20d with manual gearbox.
