built a factory in Bulgaria in 2012, and now the eastern European nation hopes that it can become a hub for automakers looking to expand in Europe.
The Great Wall factory has a 50,000 vehicle annual capacity and builds the Steed pickup from semi-knock down kits. The trucks are sold in Italy and the UK.
"Proximity to western European markets and being part of the EU's harmonized regulatory framework are also key considerations," said Ernst & Young analyst Diana Nikolaeva.
Bulgaria has a skilled workforce, is economically stable and offers low taxes to investors. It also already has a supplier base for automakers entering the country.
Bulgaria will hold its first international automotive conference from October 8 to 10 and has invited executives from HyundaiHyundaiRepublic of Korea, 1967 > present79 models
