Cadillac says that intends to continue to offer a coupe and wagon in its lineup, but those variations might not stay on the CTSCadillac CTS 3.6L PremiumUnited States of America, 2011 > present1 photo
. While Cadillac is not saying it explicitly that would seem to indicate that the coupe and wagon will move down as variations on the coming ATS.
“The fact that we offer coupes and wagons, that’s gonna continue. I’m not saying that will necessarily continue forward in the way we’re doing it today,” said Don Butler, the VP of marketing for Cadillac.
Cadillac is building the ATS at least partially to allow the CTS to grow. Currently, it is a bit of a middle child in a size larger than a BMW 3-Series but smaller than a 5-Series. Cadillac is changing that in the near future with a larger CTS that will grow to compete with the 5-Series.
The ATS, though, is almost exactly the same size of the current 3-Series. It has a shorter wheelbase, but the length is almost identical. It means that the Cadillac lineup will mirror the BMW and Audi lineup with small, medium and large sedans and two sizes of SUV.
General Motors has also said that the ATS will get a convertible version as well.
