Chevrolet has announced that the latest generation Colorado has been put through its final testing in Thailand.
The midsize pick up will be assembled in Rayong and sold in markets across Asia Pacific, Africa, the Middle East and South America.
The model line-up will feature crew-cab and extended-cab variants and powered by General Motors four cylinder Duramax diesel units.
Chevrolet’s chief engineer for the Colorado, Roberto Rempel, said “This is a world-class truck that will appeal to buyers not just in the heavily concentrated truck markets of Southeast Asia, but around the world.” Clearly this is another example of a vehicle aimed at having worldwide appeal.
Prior to production commencing General Motors has upgraded its Rayong plant. It has injected $300 million, with improvements including a retooled vehicle assembly line.
Meanwhile, General Motors will build the Colorado’s newly developed 2.5 litre and 2.8 litre diesel engines. Again, these are new and feature overhead cams, turbocharging and durable aluminium cylinder heads.
