Dacia has decided to base its next Andros Trophy ice racer on an MPV. The Dacia Lodgy will be launched at the Geneva motor Show in March 2012 and will form the basis for the race car.
There will be two Lodgy ‘Glace’ race cars entered with a 350bhp V6 powering them. Alain Prost and his son, Nicolas Prost will be the drivers, with Nicolas sharing his Dacia with Evens Stievenart.
The Dacia’s have been prepared by Tork Engineering and Sodemo, who draw expertise from Renault Sport Technologies when necessary.
Dacia is trying to eschew complicated technologies and instead it is trying to find simple ingenious solutions which fit with the brands ideology, with reliability being particularly important. The new racer will benefit from the expertise gained in the series with its predecessor, the Dacia Duster.
Here is a quick overview of the Dacia brand:
Launched in France in 2005, the Dacia brand has become a major player in the French market in just six years
- Nearly 360,000 Dacia vehicles have been sold in France since the start of the success story.
- With a market share of 3.4% at the end of October 2011, Dacia is the country’s eighth-largest brand in the passenger car and LCV market. In terms of sales to individual customers, Dacia ranks fifth.
