Daimler Posts €2.2 billion Profit for 2nd Quarter, Down €300 Million from 2011

Mercedes thinks that North America, India, Russia and China will be strong for the rest of the year

Group has posted a before tax income of €2.243 billion compared to €2.581 billion in the second quarter of 2011. Net profit for the period was €1.515 billion compared to €1,704 million in 2011.

“Despite the high expenses as previously announced for new products and technologies, our company was once again very profitable in the second quarter. We achieved strong growth in unit sales and revenue,” stated Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler.

Daimler is expecting similar before tax incomes as last year at the end of the year but say that the world economy is still quite uncertain especially in Europe.

Daimler also discussed unit sales in its earnings report. It says that total volume of sales of cars and trucks is up 8% over last year.

sales were up 4% for the quarter to 370,400 vehicles. Revenue was up by 5% to €15.4 billion. With before tax income of €1.314 billion in the second quarter of 2012. In comparison, Mercedes had before tax income of €1.566 billion in the second quarter of 2011.  

Mercedes is selling especially well in the United States and Asia. Mercedes says that it had a loss in Europe but did not reveal exactly how much was lost. 

Daimler predicts Mercedes will increase its unit sales compared to next year worldwide. It is expecting North America, China, India and Russia to be its strongest regions. 

Daimler Group in total has revenue up 10% for 2012 to €28.9 billion.
