Daimler AG has announced that in the first quarter of 2010 it has registered an EBIT of 1,190 million euros. Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars was satisfied with the results of the first four months of 2010 that contrast with last year’s results in the same period, when Daimler reported an EBIT of minus 1,426 million euros.
“This very good result for the first quarter shows that we did our homework in the crisis and are now firmly on track for success once again,” stated Dr. Dieter Zetsche.
In almost all divisions of Daimler earnings raised, especially Mercedes-Benz Cars that registered a significant growth thanks to the increasing sales of the E-Class and S-Class segments. The Group also registered positive net profit of 612 million euros in the first quarter of 2010, improving from last year’s losses of 1,286 million euros.
Selling a total of 402,700 cars and commercial vehicles in the first for months of the year, Daimler registered a growth in sales of 21%, comparing to last year. The revenue from the sales grew by 15%, from 18.7 billion euros to 21.2 billion euros.
Mercedes-Benz Cars
Mercedes-Benz continued the recovery already registered in the last quarter of 2009 and continued to raise its sales. In the first quarter of this year the German brand sold more 20% of units, compared to last year, with a total of 277,100 vehicles. The E-Class and S-Class segment sales pulled up the result in the first quarter. The most important growth in sales happened in the USA and Chinese markets.
For the rest of 2010 Mercedes-Benz should benefit from the full availability of the new E-Class models, with the new E-Class convertible joining the lineup, and also from the sales of the super sports car Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the R-Class and the CL-Class new generations, arriving in the autumn.
