BMW will begin delivering the 640d xDrive this spring that combines a twin-turbocharged, 3.0 liter diesel with all-wheel drive as either a coupe or convertible.
Despite being a big, all-wheel drive coupe, the 640d xDrive has performance to back up its traction. It has 313hp and 465lb-ft of torque and will accelerate to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds, and the coupe uses between 5.7-5.8l/100km of diesel and emits 149-153g/km of CO2. That is partially thanks to the car's standard eight-speed manual and xDrive system that can adjust power front to rear.
The engine uses a two-stage turbo system with two different sized, variable geometry turbos. The smaller one runs constantly, while the larger turbo is only activated in higher rev ranges.
The 640d xDrive comes with all of BMW's modern green features including Driving Experience Control, start/stop tech and brake force regeneration. In normal situations the all-wheel drive system is a 40:60 front to rear split.
The 640d xDrive will be available later this spring. BMW did not announce the price for the coupe or convertible.
