will also get the engine.
It produces 120hp, 300Nm of torque, makes 94g/km of CO2 and uses 3.6l/100km (78.5mpg UK) of diesel.
The engine is all-aluminum and weighs 47kg less than Honda's current 2.2-liter diesel. In addition to the lower overall weight, Honda is using lighter connecting rods and pistons to reduce rotational mass, and the cylinders are separated by just 8mm of aluminum, compared to 9mm in the 2.2-liter. The new engine has 40% less mechanical friction than the 2.2-liter diesel.
"All the rotating parts have been carefully optimized to reduce their friction," said Tetsuya Miyake, project leader on the engine.
Honda will build the new diesel at its Swindon, UK, factory that will be capable of producing 500 a day.
