European Grand Prix Preview: Will McLaren confirm Canadian victory?

Two weeks ago we headed to Canada and had a showering Grand Prix with lots emotions, lots of safety cars and a little bit more of the same. Wouldn’t that last lap mistake make him give away yet another victory and now we would have everyone saying…please someone beat Vettel.

So as we head back to Europe drivers will head to coastal Spanish cityof  Valencia where another race with a city circuit will take place. Button and McLaren will definitely want to continue to win and run after the championship leadership. Hamilton will try to recompose himself and recentre himself to get back on track as one of the drivers which can fight Vettel’s dominance.

With Ferrari things seem to have calmed down and the team is finally recovering. Alonso is now able to follow the pace of the front-runners and hasn’t given up on his title fight. We can’t definitely forget last year’s championship recovery towards the end of the season. Massa hasn’t been consistent throughout 2011, but in the last race showed why he has earned a place in the Scuderia.

While behind him the task is to beat him, Vettel should be somehow relaxed as he is currently leading the championship with 161, with a 60 points advantage to runner-up Jenson Button. Having won five out of seven races this season, he is definitely the man to beat.

For this weekend Pirelli had predicted to use the soft rubber red tyres but they were substituted by the medium yellow tyres becase of the high temperatures that are expected for the weekend.

Having started with two podium finishes in the two first races of the season, with the last race result Lotus Renault seems to be back, but both Petrov and Heidfeld will want to secure yet again a finish in the points.

With a total of 25 corners – the highest number of any track on the calendar – nine of them relatively slow corners which have similar apex speeds, Williams will definitely want to repeat last year’s fourth place by Rubens Barrichello on the city of Valencia. The team will bring an upgraded FW33 that with an enhanced diffuser should offer a performance boost.

Should be yet again an interesting race to watch.

And if you think you know who might be the winner of the Spanish Grand Prix you definitely have to participate on Autoviva’s F1 Competition. It’s simple, just go here and cast your prediction by leaving a comment.
